The Astrology of George Floyd’s Death
Why George Floyd? Why the riots? What planetary alignments are behind what that particular man and that moment, now four years in the rear view mirror, but unforgettable? The AstroCounter explains the “no-coincidence cosmic causation” that precipitated a revolution in consciousness.
To white supremacists, George Floyd represented just another unemployed black man. An astrological reading of his birth, death, martyrdom and the global riots that followed reveals a very different reality: Floyd’s soul purpose. His death and martyrdom four years ago was fueled partially, yes, by the pent-up rage of quarantine, but mainly by sheer fury that black lives haven’t mattered for so long, by rage at white male violent police privilege.
But the real answer to the question of Why George Floyd? Why May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, MN? goes deeper than that. After all, this incident united people like no other similar incident before it. And there were no shortage of such similar incidents.
So – what happened here?
George Floyd may have appeared a materially constrained man, yet his soul was something else entirely. His chart shows that Floyd came into this lifetime with a philosopher-king’s soul.
Floyd’s chart clearly conveys a destiny: that of a martyred messenger, born to elevate consciousness and conscience. The moment of his murder resonated as strongly as it did because of its stunning intersection of that particular soul with that particular moment, as follows. There were no cosmic coincidences here: as gruesome as his murder was, it was also a moment perfect for its purpose.
To determine if an individual or an event is likely to play a starring role on the global stage, the Counter looks at certain critical factors. They include but are not limited to 1) any planet, asteroid, trans-Neptunian object (TNO) sitting on cardinal angle (IC, DC, ASC, MC); 2) any planet situated in the Zero Degree [“ZD”]; 3) exact conjunctions of certain planets/planetary objects 4) the lunar north node’s degree and placement; 4) anaretic (29th) degree placements; and 5) Ptolemaic aspects to certain key planets, including Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Makemake, and Psyche.
George Floyd’s natal chart, below, even without an exact birth time, is packed with such factors. His moment of death, horrifyingly captured on global mind-vid, was too eerily “coincidental” — destined — to be anything but what an AstroCount reading of it shows it to be. George Floyd’s birth and death were in the service of delivering a fated message: a shout-out to the global conscience to change business as usual regarding the most grievous type of injustice – injustice based only on the body one is born into, most particularly the color of one’s skin.
When reading a chart, too often astrologers overlook the critical role of asteroids and trans-Neptunian objects. One such important object is the asteroid Psyche (asteroid #16, seen in the above charts with the abbreviation “Psych”.)
“Psyche” is the Greek word for “soul.” In the natal chart above, Floyd’s Psyche is found in the most important degree of the entire zodiac: the Zero Degree, [“ZD’]. Any planet, asteroid, object or house cusp placed in a sign’s ZD is profoundly emphasized. That planet – planetary object or cardinal angle- becomes a key theme of the entire chart.
Consider this: the ZD, after all, represents the very first step, the birth of something. Therefore, any planetary placement in a ZD shows where an individual or event possesses the sheer energy of emergence. Think of the opening notes — “Ta-Ta-Ta DUM!”– of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. That’s the soundtrack to the ZD: the heart-pounding roar of great beginnings.
Floyd’s ZD Psyche wasn’t just any ZD placement: it was a ZD placement in the sign of Sagittarius. Sagittarius is the sign of the archer, the truth-bringer, ruled by the planet Jupiter (literally “Guru” in Sanskrit). A planet in ZD Sagittarius is profoundly expansive: it will enlarge, bring growth and guidance to whatever area of life it touches.
Translation? Huge, huge soul encased in the body of one George Floyd: a giant global guide in the guise of a gentle guy.
While we do not know the exact moment of Floyd’s birth, that doesn’t matter, because the asteroid Psyche moves too slowly to have changed degrees in just one day. Yet what we do know is —
and here’s where things get really interesting —
the exact moment of Floyd’s death. Floyd’s death chart (8:15pm in Minneapolis) has as an Ascendant none other than —
ZD Sagittarius.
Why is this important? The Ascendant represents an individual’s purpose in addition to their physical body – literally, the embodiment of the soul. With the ZD in Saggitarius the time of his death joining ZD Psyche, Floyd’s soul had literally come home.
The rubber had hit the road:
Psyche met Purpose,
Soul met Goal.
